1959 Fiat-Abarth 750 Record Monza Zagato

This 1959 Fiat-Abarth 750 Record Monza Zagato is noted to have spent approximately five decades as part of a Kansas City-area enthusiast’s sports car collection beginning in the 1970s, during which time it was tracked prior to being refurbished between 1988 and 1992 with work involving a color change to red and an interior refresh in tan. Power is supplied by a replacement Tipo 100.008 inline-four, while shifting is via a four-speed manual gearbox. It rides on 12″ steel wheels and is further equipped with independent suspension, drum brakes, a single Weber carburetor, and tubular bumpers. Inside, low-back bucket seats are accompanied by a split-spoke steering wheel and Jaeger instrumentation. Purchased by the current owner around three years ago, this 750 Record Monza Zagato is now offered by the seller on behalf of its owner’s family with a spares package, refurbishment photos, service records, and a Kansas title. The Record Monza was introduced in October 1958 as a development of the 750 Zagato GT and was named in celebration of Abarth’s endurance records around the Monza circuit. Like its predecessor, the model featured aluminum coachwork by Milan’s Zagato, but with styling updated to incorporate a streamlined roof, a single intake scoop on the rear decklid, and quarter windows in the sail panels. Previously finished in white, this example received bodywork prior to a repaint in red as part of the aforementioned refurbishment completed in the early 1990s. Exterior details include faired-in headlights with engine-turned housings as well as Abarth and Zagato badging, a door-mounted left mirror, pop-out door handles, tubular bumpers, and twin exhaust tips. The 12″ steel wheels are finished in silver and mounted with BFGoodrich Silvertown tires. Independent suspension incorporates a transverse front leaf spring, a semi-trailing-arm rear setup with coil springs, and hydraulic shock absorbers all around. Stopping is provided by four-wheel drum brakes. The reupholstered cabin houses a pair of low-back bucket seats trimmed in brown leatherette with tan cloth inserts, which are accompanied by color-coordinated door panels featuring patterned fabric map pockets. Loop carpeting lines the floors, while the ceiling wears a fluted headliner. The black dash incorporates various vehicle control switches. The split-spoke steering wheel with an Abarth horn button fronts Jaeger instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 25k miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The replacement OHV inline-four was installed under previous ownership and utilizes a Tipo 100.008 block. Induction is through a single Weber carburetor with an Abarth air cleaner. The seller notes that the ignition coil was replaced ahead of the sale. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. A spare Tipo 100.000 engine with an Abarth finned oil sump will accompany the car along with a manual gearbox.
