NO RESERVE 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera Coupe 6-Speed Race Car

This 1999 Porsche 996 has been transformed into a dedicated track car with roots in the Koni Challenge series, originally campaigned by the Hop-A-Jet race team before passing through a succession of track-focused owners. Finished in black and updated from its original 3.4-liter specification to 996.2 3.6-liter configuration, the car received a refreshed 3.6-liter crate engine from Porsche North America in 2010 and has been used solely for track duty since. Comprehensively prepared for competition, it features a full roll cage, JRZ suspension, fiberglass and carbon body panels, and an AIM data dash. This 996 track car is now being offered for auction at no reserve on behalf of the seller in Georgia. Finished in black, the car wears a mix of lightweight body panels, including Michael Shaw fiberglass doors, rear deck lid, and a cup-style rear wing, a carbon fiber hood, and a GT3-style front fascia with a chin spoiler. The exterior mirrors are painted DayGlo orange, and faded graphics remain that the seller notes can be removed or replaced. It rides on Kinesis wheels wrapped in older racing slicks. The seller notes imperfections including paint scratches and dings, a star crack in the windshield, and front-bumper paint protection film that may no longer be present. The interior has been fully stripped for competition and fitted with a full roll cage with NASCAR-style driver's-side door bars, an interior net, and a driver's-side window net. Two Sparco EVO2 seats are installed, which the seller notes will need to be recovered or replaced, with a Schroth six-point HANS-ready harness on the driver's side and a six-point harness on the passenger side. The car features an AIM XL data dash with sensors for fuel pressure and water and oil temperatures, a removable steering wheel with a push-to-talk button, exterior and interior-accessible kill switches, and a cool-shirt hookup. The refreshed 3.6-liter flat-six, installed as a Porsche North America crate engine in 2010, is largely stock aside from a cold air intake and is said to produce approximately 325 HP. Power reaches the rear wheels through the OEM transmission and a limited-slip differential. The suspension consists of JRZ two-way adjustable struts at all four corners with remote nitrogen canisters and quick-disconnect high-pressure lines, which require occasional recharging to about 140 psi. With its stripped interior and lightweight panels, the car is said to weigh just over 2,700 pounds. The seller states that the car started on the first turn of the key after a period of storage, that it is believed to be mechanically sound but would benefit from a thorough going-through before track use, and that the total mileage is unknown, with the current engine estimated to have covered fewer than 20,000 miles. This sale will include a bill of sale, the original doors, hood, rear deck lid, and wing, a possible second set of wheels, and older racing slicks. I purchased it in 2007 from the Hop-A-Jet Koni Challenge team, one of two 1999 996 race cars they campaigned, both updated from 3.4-liter to 3.6-liter 996.2 specification. I ran it in DE and SVRA vintage events through 2010, when I replaced the engine with a fresh Porsche North America crate motor after leak-down readings showed cylinder deviation. Since then, the car has seen only DE track duty under subsequent owners and me. I sold it in 2012 to a friend who ran it mostly at Barber Motorsports Park, and it later passed to another friend around 2020, who let it sit while approaching retirement and sadly passed away shortly afterward. I am helping his widow sell the car as a gesture of goodwill, and I am glad to answer any questions since I know it well.
